Why should you have to pay for domain names?

I understand the importance of keeping domain names legitimate, however I don’t understand what exectly people are paying for here?
If one is right, then how could you just bypass the retailers and obtain your own. What do these retailers actually do then? They’re getting them for free…

The rights to be the rights to be the rights to pay for the only one with that domain name simple economics if someone will pay you can sell it people are selling them.

For assigned names these days that would cause all names have to pay for icann have to meet certain amount.
The qualifications and be paid.
An approved registration those arent cheap they also have unique domain name just like dba doing business as registration those arent cheap either names to be on the registrations.

The is rather complex process so domains to give you could have registered them in the value of registrar if you 7domain price.
